Alam Products

What kind of wax do you use in ALAM Candles?

ALAM Candles use a blend of soy/coconut/rapeseed wax. You can find our candle's wax in each product. Coconut Wax Considered as the most luxurious plant-based wax in the candle industry, coconut oil and wax are both used in skincare products and the candle industry. Coconut wax typically melts very easily, hence it using a stronger wax as its blending buddy always provides the best result. Coconut wax has the cleanest and slowest burning to help you maximise the use of your candles, which we also love! Coconut wax we use is not just eco-friendly, but also GMO-free.

Soy Wax
Soy wax is famous amongst candle lovers, it offers great scent throws which means the wax is making the most out of the fragrance load in your candles. Over the years, the soy industry has some questionable method of farming which impacts directly on climate change of our planet making it harder to source from a credible supplier, this is something very important for us and we'd like you to know that the soy we always source eco-friendly and sustainable soy wax. Soy wax also gives an extra creamy appearance in your candle's colour! Rapeseed Wax In Ireland and the United Kingdom in the summer, you often see beds and beds of rapeseed flowers. They look fabulously yellow, super photogenic and also something that we use on a daily basis. You can easily find rapeseed oil in your local supermarket aisle! As it turns out, they are also an amazing wax to use in candles. This wax brings the lovely cold-ish scent in your candles, usually, when your candle isn't lit you can smell the beautiful heart notes of your scents much clearer!

Do you use essential oils in your candles?

Essential oils in candles can definitely work, however, we are currently not using this in our candles. Essential Oils has some great therapeutic benefits to them too, however, to achieve this would require a much higher concentration. More to that, essential oil has a significant difference in pricing than fragrance oil. Do you know that it takes more than 200,000 rose petals to make 15ml worth of rose oil? Wow! Our fragrance oils are IFRA approved which means it is safe to use and of course and high in quality (if you have our candles, we're sure you know this already!). Our supplier made sure to include all the necessary documentation to confirm this upon purchase. This means it is made especially for your candles! It blends well with our lovely waxes with limitless possibilities for creativity! Our fragrance oils are also vegan, phthalate and paraben-free.

What wick do you use in your candles?

ALAM candles wicks are made from cotton + brown paper wicks.

How long should I burn my candle unti I can smell the scent?

Natural waxes has a "memory" which means they will burn the same way as their first burn. This is why your first burn is very important, we recommend to burn your candle until it achieves an even melt-pool.

What candle safety should we know about?

Each candle includes care and lighting instructions on the bottom label. Candles add a fragrant enhancement to living and workspaces and are safe to enjoy, but we encourage care and attention to the following guidelines:

- Always burn candles in a well-ventilated room and on a heat-resistant surface.
- Do not leave a burning candle unattended.
- Avoid drafts, vents, ceiling fans or other moving air pathways to encourage even burning and minimize smoke or a flickering wick.
- Never touch a burning candle or move a candle when the wax is liquid.
- Never extinguish candles with water.
- Make sure a candle is completely extinguished before leaving the room.
- Keep candles out of the reach of small children and pets.
- Never burn a candle on or near anything that can catch fire.

How many candles do I need for my space?

One candle each for your bathrooms, kitchens and bedroom works great! Larger rooms or spaces with high ceilings or open floor plans may need multiple candles for the best fragrance permeation. You can have multiple candles of the same scent, or mix and match them for your own unique blend.

Can your container be reused?

Yes! Once there is about 1/4 inch of wax left, stop using the candle. Use caution and care when removing the remaining wax, wicks and any labelling. Our suggestion is to perforate the leftover wax and pour hot boiling water into the jar, leave the wax to float and collects the remaining wax once cool. Then enjoy your wax on your wax melts burner! Then place the container in hot soapy water to soften any residue and labels, and wash, rinse and dry. Note: we assume no liability for candle containers or subsequent results of reuse by the consumer, once purchased.

What is the best way to burn one of your candles?

When you burn your candle for the first time, it’s super important to make sure your wax is creating an even pool. To do this, simply let your candle burn until all the surface wax is liquid. Natural waxes have memory, hence making sure the surface is liquid will help you get the most of your candle. Always trim your wick 1/4” in every burn and burn your candle up to 4 hours at a time.

What is the best way to extinguish a candle?

We always recommend using a snuffer. However, if you do not have these simply blow softly and cover the jar to stop the smoke. :)

Enjoy your candles!
